The Benefits of Reading for Kids

Reading isn’t just about flipping through pages—it’s a gateway to adventure, knowledge, and creativity! When kids dive into a good book, they enhance their vocabulary, boost comprehension skills, and strengthen their ability to focus. Plus, reading fuels their imagination, taking them on journeys to far-off lands, introducing them to new characters, and helping them develop empathy. Studies also show that children who read regularly perform better in school and develop stronger communication skills.

Encouraging your child to read daily sets them up for lifelong success—and now, with the Cajun Fast Track Read and Race Challenge, they can have a blast while doing it!

How the Reading Challenge Works

Starting on March 1, 2025 through the rest of the school year, children in grades 1-6 can participate in the Cajun Fast Track Read and Race Challenge, designed to make reading both exciting and rewarding. Here’s how it works:

1. Each student can download a reading log to track their progress. (If they are participating in the class competition, their teachers will provide the log)

2. For every 20 minutes of reading, they can color in one block on the race track. The more consecutive days they read, the quicker they’ll race to the finish line!

3. After completing 15 days of reading, the student can turn in their log to receive a $15 game card to Cajun Fast Track!

Parents and legal guardians, please sign, date, and include the student’s class on the reading log. To claim their prize, a parent or legal guardian must be present when the student turns in their completed log. It’s a fantastic way to reward their dedication to reading while fueling their excitement for learning!

Looking for the perfect reading spot? Camp Margaritaville Breaux Bridge has plenty of peaceful and cozy locations where kids (and adults!) can escape into a book while relaxing at our family campground in Louisiana. Parents can join the fun too! Reading alongside your child sets a great example and makes the experience even more enjoyable. Whether it’s a shared bedtime story or a quiet afternoon reading together, these moments create lasting memories. Here's a few of our favorite reading spots at our Louisiana campground: 

Under the palm trees – Grab a hammock or lounge chair and enjoy a tropical reading escape under the palms.

Inside our cozy cabins – The perfect indoor nook for a quiet reading session. Take your pick and book any of our luxury cabins available for families anywhere from 4-12!

By the fishing pond – Enjoy the sounds of nature while flipping through pages in the refreshing outdoor air.

Poolside relaxation – Nothing beats soaking up the sun with a great book in hand. Starting April 1st, you can relax poolside with your family to get your reading in.

The Grand Prize: A Cajun Fast Track Adventure!

After your studnet/child finishes their reading log, they will receive an action-packed reward! Every student who completes 15 days of reading earns a $15 game card to Cajun Fast Track, where the fun never ends. Here’s what they can look forward to:

Go-Karts – Race against friends and family on an exhilarating track.

Mini Golf – Put their skills to the test with a fun and challenging course.

Laser Tag – Team up for an action-packed laser battle.

Arcade Games – Try out the latest games and classic favorites.

Delicious Food & Drinks – Refuel with tasty snacks and refreshing drinks after all the excitement.
